A prominent Swedish luminaire production company Fagerhult has introduced a new LED-luminaire Freedom designed by architect Weikko Kotila and lighting designer Julle Oksanen. Freedom is one of the first powerful over-all lighting armatures in mass production. Freedom is challenging the ordinary fluorescent lamps in many ways. The lifetime of its LED light is very long (50 000 hours), it does not contain harmful liquids as quicksilver, and it is small in dimension as well as light in weight. Material saving has been one of the goals of the design process. The dimensions are based on 12-measure-system.
The two different 1200 mm units (curved and straight) can be connected freely. Freedom gives a totally new approach for designers to form "a light ribbon" and make luminaires and lighting an integral part of interiors. Six units form e.g. a circle of a diameter 2400 mm. There are no limits for the lenght of curved, winding or straight Freedom light line. You need only a single LED ballast and a snap-in terminal box for six lighting units. The luminaire is dimmable and thus very suitable for offices, meeting rooms, auditoriums and homes. Freedom gives light colour of 4000 K, a sheer tone near to sunshine. There is the downlight version and the one with indirect uplight annex. The opal sheet makes the light line even. The color of the luminaire is graphite grey.
The new luminaire has already got an enthusiastic reception in Norway and Poland and will be introduced in Finland this year.
